Day 1: From Hanoi to Lang Son - Mau Son, 190 kilometers / 119 miles

Today, you will follow the ride on High Way No. 1 from Hanoi to Lang Son (roughly 190 kilometers), bordering to China. Along the road, you can view the beautiful scenery of rice fields, villages, and gardens with the daily life of the locals. Upon approaching Lang Son city, you will take a rest accompanied by a cup of coffee before your guide takes you around to explore some historical relics, central market, and Huu Nghi, the border gate to China.

After having lunch, you will keep on riding up to Mau Son on the beautiful newly sealed spiral road. Mau Son is 30 kilometers away from Lang Son, 1,541 meters above sea level. The venue is quite cool in the evening. Overnight stay will be in the guest-house of Mau Son Resort.

Day 2: From Mau Son to Quang Uyen, 180 kilometers / 112 miles

After having your breakfast at the hotel, you will say goodbye to Lang Son to ride straight to Quang Uyen that belongs to Cao Bang province via Dong Khe and That Khe. In general, the road is a bit bumpy and dusty. En-route, you will have chances to experience the stunning landscapes of rice terraces and peaceful villages, communicate with the locals, and taste lots of local foods.

It will take six hours to reach the beautiful village of Quang Uyen, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people. You will spend the night in a homestay.

Day 3: From Quang Uyen to Ban Gioc Waterfall, 140 kilometers / 87 miles

After enjoying a simple but friendly breakfast with a local family, you will say goodbye to the villagers and keep riding to Ban Gioc waterfall, one of Vietnam's best-known waterfalls. It's a very scenic spot, marking the border with China, but sees very few visitors. The name Ban Gioc is derived from the Montagnard languages ​​spoken in the area and is sometimes spelled Ban Doc. The waterfall is the largest, although not the highest, in the country.

The vertical drop is 53 meters, but it has an impressive 300 meters span; one end of the falls is in China, the other is in Vietnam. The falls have three levels, creating a sort of giant staircase, and there's enough water anytime, most years, to make the trip worthwhile. You will get your lunch in a local restaurant before you get a very nice ride to get over Ma Phuc pass to reach Cao Bang via Quang Uyen. Overnight stay will be in Cao Bang

Day 4: Cao Bang to Ba Be National Park, 150 kilometers / 94 miles

Today, you will enjoy a very amazing ride from Cao Bang to Ba Be Lake which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and you will also have to get over some steep curvy passes where you can see hillsides carpeted with apiaries, Vietnam's most famous honey-producing areas. Your lunch will be provided en-route. Upon approaching the wharf of Ba Be Lake, you will take a motor ride though Ba Be National Park to Pac Ngo village where you will enjoy the night with the ethnic Tay people.

Day 5: Ba Be Lake to Hanoi, 230 kilometers / 143 miles

After breakfast, you will go past Ba Be forest where you can discover spectacular rivers, deep valleys, natural caves, and undulating mountains. On the way, you will pay a visit to Pac Ngoi village, where the local people still keep the traditional stilt house, then enter Hua Ma cave famous with thousands of stalactites and columns. Afterward, you will drive back to Hanoi and have lunch at a local restaurant on the way. You will arrive in Hanoi at about 16:30.
